Bio

Born in 1972 in Valence, Alexandre Roux lives in Ledignan, in the Gard, in the south of France. A self-taught guitarist since the age of fifteen, he added the bass, then the double bass, then, at forty, two years of piano and two of accordion. He sings too, plays the cavaquinho now and then and tinkers in his home studio. A self-taught musician, he understood too late that lessons might have helped.

Rock, from the Drôme to Montpellier (1989-2000)

It all starts in the Drôme with Les Alchimistes (1989-1993), rock and punk, where he sings and plays guitar. A student in Lyon, he moves to the electric guitar in Blockh (1993-1995), garage rock. Settled in Montpellier, he plays from 1996 to 2000 in Mister Zog, rock, still on electric guitar. The band plugs back in in 2026 under the name OMZ.

Then a family break, from 2000 to 2007, "and it does you good".

Bass, folk and the double bass (2007-2017)

The comeback is on bass, in the Gard, with the Barakatones (2007-2010), Eastern European music and "brazilochorofunky" in Nîmes. Five years of modern folk follow with Coriandre (2009-2014) in Sommières, bass and cavaquinho, and at the same time Sors Les Mains d'Tes Poches (SLMTP), Coriandre Productions' balèti for children: dance music from the Occitan traditional repertoire and original songs in Occitan and French.

The double bass arrives with Baptiste Pizon (2011-2017), French chanson and folk in the Gard. Meanwhile the electro-acoustic guitar goes back to work in Les Naufragés (2014-2017), rock in Montpellier, and the voice in Ultra Volta (2015-2020), hi-energy rock'n'roll in Nîmes.

Jukebal, In bocca al lupo, Bric à Brac Combo (2015 to today)

Since 2015, Jukebal has been his home port: songs to dance to, Brassens waltzes, bourrées by La Rue Ketanou or the Clash, mazurkas, circles and polkas in French, Occitan and English. "For one ball you get fifteen songs": a duo at first, the band became a trio, Alexandre Roux on double bass, vocals and guitar, Marilou Emerial on accordion and Julien Régi on guitar, vocals and percussion. No coin needed to start the Jukebal: the generosity of its sound craftsmen overflows, and it is contagious.

Since 2023 he plays acoustic guitar, and a bit of comedy, in In bocca al lupo, the burlesque show of Italian songs of the Cirque en Kit company: the thirties, jazz and rock'n'roll, from Rome to Naples, Renato Carosone, Gabriella Ferri and Totò, cabaret style.

Since 2025 he holds the bass of Bric à Brac Combo, "chanson with character to share, poetry that sways": a jumble of styles, a waltz, a cumbia, an offbeat tango, an almost unleashed punk, a bossa, a zouk, some counterfeit hip hop, on an original repertoire, with Marilou Emerial on vocals and accordion, Robin Boucheteil on guitar and backing vocals and Cyril Ferragut on drums. "Alex lays his notes down with care; from the top of his fine bass he pours out a generosity that carries us away."

And the rest

A software engineer by day, he also writes the apps musicians need: Chordelio for chords, Playelio for playlists and karaoke, Songbookelio for songbooks, and the bands' websites. The engineering degree itself "is not much use in music, except for fixing the bandmates' PCs".
